A short drive northeast of Downtown Orlando is Winter Park, one of the City Beautiful’s most popular destinations. Back in the day, this popular winter resort town catered to wealthy northerners. Today it still welcomes travelers and locals year round. Winter Park is one of those “distinctly Florida” towns dedicated to preserving its history and small town feel. Part of that deep-rooted sense of identity and community means getting together for the holidays. With the holiday season upon us, there’s a wealth of festivities taking place for the whole family to enjoy throughout the season.
A Tiffany Christmas
The Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art and the city of Winter Park host their 40-year-old tradition held annually in Central Park: lighting the beautiful stain-glass windows of the Tiffany Chapel during choir performances. Attendees are invited to bring chairs and blankets, get comfortable and enjoy the music and lights. Explore the diverse collection of artwork, antiques, and Tiffany jewelry and art all inside the Morse Museum on Fridays when you can enjoy free admission starting at 4 p.m.
Music in the Park
The Winter Park holiday concert series includes jazz performances and other local musicians around the main street, called Park Avenue, in various venues. During the holidays, Park Avenue will be closed off to cars and other vehicles to create a pedestrian plaza.
Ice Skating … in Florida?
Despite our temperate winters, you can enjoy ice skating in Winter Park. Cost is only $13 per person, which includes the skate rental. This unique activity (for Central Florida) will take place on the corner of Morse Boulevard and New York Avenue.
More Holiday Festivities!
There’s really a lot for you and the family to enjoy from the annual holiday tree lighting, catch a holiday movie at the Enzian Theater, to capturing the moment with Santa and Mrs. Claus. You can find all the details on the festivities taking place in Winter Park on the chamber of commerce’s website https://winterpark.org/winter-on-the-avenue.
