June marks the start of Florida’s rainy season, the time of year where thunderstorms roll in almost every afternoon and drive everyone indoors. These downpours, while intense, are usually brief and rarely last into the evening. But just because you have to head for cover, that doesn’t mean the fun stops entirely—there are plenty of fun indoor activities around the city that will provide much-needed respite from the rain.

Indoor Mini-Golf

Although most mini-golf courses are outdoors and exposed to the elements, there is a hidden gem located at the Artegon shopping complex, just across the street from the northernmost outlets on International Drive. Putting Edge is a glow-in-the-dark indoor mini-golf course, complete with black lights and music to jam to while you putt around. If you’re still looking to kill some time once you finish, there’s a movie theater right next door (and some pretty great movies coming out this June). //link parenthetical to June Movies blog

Bowling

Another great indoor activity that is perfect for spending a few sheltered hours in the afternoon is bowling. Some of our favorite spots are Kings Dining & Entertainment on I-Drive and Splitsville at Disney Springs. While the mere mention of the word “bowling” may call to mind images of pale fluorescent lighting, stale pizza, and pitchers of flat soda, you can rest assured that these places are contemporary and fun, with delicious food that competes with many of our favorite local restaurants.

Arcade

While certain activities become less exciting as we grow older, few things are as ageless as the excitement of stepping into an arcade with time to kill and some game credits burning a hole in your pocket. Whether you are racing against your friends, dominating your siblings on the air hockey table, or beating your family at Skee-Ball, few things are as distractingly fun as an arcade trip. Nowadays, there aren’t so many stand-alone arcades—the closest on I-Drive would be Dave & Buster’s, the combined arcade/restaurant. Other local favorites include Main Event Entertainment (bowling/arcade) and Andretti Indoor Karting and Games (go-karts/arcade). Even the Rosen Inn also has an arcade game room onsite.

If you are looking for a luxurious way to avoid the storms, you can’t beat taking those afternoon hours to pamper yourself at one of our spas. Both the Spa at Shingle Creek and the Spa at Rosen Centre offer a variety of massages, facials, and other relaxing services that will leave you feeling right as rain.
