One of the most successful comedic entertainers in the world — whose films have, to date, collectively grossed over one billion dollars in box office sales worldwide — is returning to his roots in stand-up comedy. Originally booked for Saturday, July 25, actor and comedian Chris Tucker is now scheduled to take the Hard Rock Live Orlando stage at 8 p.m. on Friday, January 29, 2021, with a set that is sure to knock the laughs out of everyone.
From Friday to Payday
A dynamic comedian known for his rapid delivery and animated expressions, Chris Tucker began his career on the comedy stage and in supportive roles in films like House Party 3, Panther, and Dead Presidents. However, it was the iconic F. Gary Gray comedy, Friday, that put Tucker on Hollywood’s radar in 1995. As Smokey to Ice Cube’s Craig, Tucker made a name for himself as the go-to comedian for fast-talking comebacks and over-the-top antics.
In 1997, Tucker followed up his success in Friday with a string of memorable roles in several high-profile films.
- Money Talks – In his first buddy comedy team-up with director Brett Ratner, Tucker plays a street-smart hustler alongside Charlie Sheen.
- The Fifth Element – This Bruce Wills-starring, sci-fi, space epic from director Luc Besson allowed Tucker to reach new heights as the delightfully distressed diva Ruby Rhod.
- Jackie Brown – Tucker’s impressive resume grew with a crucial role under the direction of Quentin Tarantino.
However, it wasn’t until Tucker paired up with Jackie Chan in 1998’s martial arts buddy comedy, Rush Hour, that he became a household name and global superstar. The popular Brett Ratner film series produced two sequels, Rush Hour 2 (2001) and Rush Hour 3 (2007), which netted Tucker $20 million and $25 million paydays, respectively, to return as Detective James Carter. At the time, his deal made him the highest-paid actor in Hollywood.
Comedic Awards and Dramatic Credits
Throughout his acting career, Tucker received a variety of domestic and international entertainment awards from organizations such as Blockbuster Entertainment, Gold Derby, Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice, and MTV. He was even named “Comedy Star of the Year” in 2002 from the ShoWest Convention. In recent years, Tucker has made the leap to supporting turns in more dramatic films such as the Academy award-winning Silver Linings Playbook co-starring Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, and Robert De Niro, and Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk directed by Ang Lee.
Return to Stand-Up
After dedicating several years to traveling for humanitarian and philanthropic efforts through his Chris Tucker Foundation, Tucker returned to stand-up comedy in 2015 with his Netflix special, Chris Tucker Live. On his new international comedy tour coming to Hard Rock Live Orlando, Tucker reignites the same raw energy and dynamic personality that first drew audiences to him back when he came to prominence on HBO’s Def Comedy Jam in the early 90s. You’re a ticket away from witnessing Tucker’s growth as a comedian as he proves that his ability to connect with audiences through endless laughter has only intensified over the years.
