The tallest swing ride in the world is now located right here in Orlando. The $10 million Orlando Starflyer is near the similarly tall Orlando Eye on International drive and takes riders over 400 feet in the air, swinging them around at speeds of up to 60 miles per hour. It’s just like your favorite spinning swing rides at carnivals and fairs but taken to the next level!
Chief designer Chuck Whittall compares the StarFlyer to the theme park attractions, saying “Disney and Universal have their rides, but they don’t have anything as big as we’ve got. We wanted to have the best. We have the wheel next door [Orlando Eye], which is the tallest structure in Central Florida. Now we have the tallest thrill ride in Central Florida.”
Tickets are $12 per person to experience the record-breaking heights on the four-and-a-half minute thrill ride.
An attraction of this magnitude comes with its own safety precautions. Riders are instructed to empty their pockets and remove things like keys, coins, cellphones, sunglasses, hats, and anything else that can come dislodged and create a hazard during the ride.
As an additional safety precaution, riders are required to be at least 44 inches tall and cannot be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Those with high blood pressure or heart conditions are not recommended to ride as well.
