September Sports in Orlando

September is a month of adjustment. Getting back into the swing of the school year and extracurricular schedules takes some time. Even the weather is beginning to transition towards something more bearable after the brutal summer months. During these times the sports world moves on as normal, with some leagues starting to heat up as the playoffs near while others are kicking off. To make sure that you don’t miss any of the excitement, here is a primer on what is happening this September in the world of sports.

Orlando City Revs Up

Running on a different timetable than other professional sports in the US, the MLS season begins in March and culminates in the fall. September will be a monumental time for the Lions as four of their last five games take place over those 30 days. Mark your calendars for two Saturdays in a row: September 7 and 14. On these days, Orlando City will take on the league leading LAFC before hosting the New England Revolution in what is sure to be a crucial conference match. Also be on the lookout for the final home game of the year and the final game of the regular season, taking place on Sunday, October 6 against the Chicago Fire.

Pride Take on Fresh Challenges

Also finishing up their 2019 season, the Orlando Pride have important games coming up in the month of September. They kick off the festivities a day early hosting the Washington Spirit on Saturday, August 31, followed by a home tilt against the Chicago Red Stars on Wednesday, September 11.

Knights Begin Their Quest

After two seasons of unprecedented success and national attention, the UCF Knights embark on another season hoping to build off of their previous success. Their opener takes place on Thursday, August 29 against Florida A&M at Spectrum Stadium, with two more home games following in September. The UCF Knights will host the Stanford Cardinal on Saturday the 14, followed by the first American Athletic Conference game of the season when they welcome the UConn on Saturday, September 28.
