Grab a stein and get ready to celebrate! Although Bavaria is many miles away, Central Florida enjoys it’s very own Orlando Downtown Oktoberfest celebration on October 7, 2018. Across downtown, restaurants and other locales offer beer and German specialties in on honor of the holiday. Additionally, on the first Saturday in October you’ll enjoy Blocktoberfest on Wall St. Plaza – a free Oktoberfest party with eight locally owned participating locations all on one block. Here’s a peek at some of the fun you can expect at Orlando Downtown Oktoberfest.
Plenty of Revelry and Merrymaking
It’s not just the beer that accounts for the jolliness associated with this holiday. In 1810, the original Oktoberfest took place as part of the wedding celebrations of Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese Von Sachsen-Hildburghausen in Bavaria. The townspeople had so much fun that the festival became a local tradition and eventually evolved into the celebration we know today, keeping with it the original spirit of fun and revelry.
Pretzel & Bratwurst
Start the party with a hearty helping of German food to prime your belly for the drinking later on. At the Orlando Downtown Oktoberfest restaurants across town offer German specials from spätzle to sauerkraut. If you prefer to remain in one spot but still have plenty of choices, visit Wall St. Plaza’s Blocktoberfest celebration. There you’ll enjoy a pretzel and brat tent as well as a food trucks with German cuisine.
Oompa Music All Night Long
Once you’ve filled your bellies with pretzels and sausages, you’ll want to stick around Wall St. Plaza to enjoy live music. Clap along (or dance) to the sprightly Bavarian folksongs. In the past, performers have included Adam Moreno Project and Jimmy & Eckhart German Oktoberfest Show.
Beer, Beer, and More Beer!
Of course, beer is a must at any modern day Oktoberfest and downtown Orlando has plenty for everyone. At participating locations you’ll enjoy $3 Sam Adams Oktoberfest beer as well as $3 Jägermeister. Wall St. Plaza offers unlimited Oktoberfest beer and a Sam Adam’s beer stein souvenir for just $20.
