Orlando City travels a bit this August, playing six games without two in a row at home this month. The Lions are in middling form this season and could stand to pick up a few points from these matches if they want to secure a spot in the playoffs later this year.
Home vs. FC Dallas
Saturday, August 3 | 7:30 PM
FC Dallas visits The City Beautiful on the first weekend of the month looking good (for the first part of their year). FC Dallas lost two matches in their first nine this season. Their matches have been fairly close though; their largest margin of victory this year stands at only 2 goals. Orlando City may have a chance to steal 3 points here if they are able to get an early lead and protect it.
Away at Toronto FC
Saturday, August 10 | 7:30 PM
Orlando City ranks one lone point behind Toronto FC in the standings at the time of writing, but Toronto has played two fewer games at this point in the season. This looks like it will be a tough test on the road for the Lions. Flying home with a draw should be about all the fans can ask for from this away game.
Home vs. Sporting KC
Wednesday, August 14 | 7:30 PM
Sporting KC sits in the middle of the top-heavy Western Conference, where the good teams are honestly good and the rest of the teams aren’t. SKC have only won two games in eight played so far, and they don’t look to be much of a threat as they come to visit the Purple Fortress here in Orlando.
Away at Minnesota United
Saturday, August 17 | 8:00 PM
Minnesota United currently ranks sixth in the Western Conference standings. Orlando City also sits at sixth in the Eastern Conference. Both teams have had their ups and downs this season, looking good at times and poor at others. This matchup probably balances most evenly between the conferences. Either side could easily decide to show up and have a good game to secure their 3 points.
Home vs. Atlanta United
Friday, August 23 | 8:00 PM
Although the MLS tried to manufacture a rivalry between Orlando City and NYCFC when they both joined the league in 2015, Atlanta United has probably been Orlando’s biggest rival since they joined the league in 2017. Their closer location to Orlando compared to other MLS teams allows fans of both teams to travel for away games, leading to rowdy and energetic environments. This Friday night game will likely be the loudest of the month. Will you be there cheering on the Lions?
Away at San Jose Earthquakes
Saturday, August 31 | 10:30 PM
The Lions close out their month with a cross-country trip to San Jose to take on the struggling Earthquakes. It has been a rough start for San Jose, who have dropped five of their first nine games and only won two of them (albeit in convincing fashion, by a total score of 7-1). We predict Orlando City could win this road trip game, who will be looking to end their month on a high note as part of a playoff push.
